Royer Funds Education Scholarship at Manchester

leave a comment »

First Christian Church, Rochester, will administer the scholarship fund. Form left, church officials Glen Boade and Helen Enyart, donor Dee Royer and his wife Margaret Royer, interim minister Fred Dorisse.

Dee Royer is helping students enter the career his late wife, Mildred Stackhouse Royer, pursued for 25 years. In her memory, Royer has established a four-year scholarship to Manchester College for students pursuing a degree in elementary or secondary education.

Royer annonced the scholarship at a meeting of First Christian Church, Rochester, Ind. The congregation will administer the scholarship fund. The scholarship is open to students from Fulton, Wabash and Cass Counties in Indiana.

Mrs. Royer taught in Cass County and in the Indianapolis area. She enjoyed school as a child and was encouraged by her teachers to pursue an education degree.

Beacuse her family did not have the money to pay for college, Mrs. Royer worked to fund her education. She was assisted by a benefactor from her workplace, who gave her $100 to help her get started.

A scholarship team has been appointed by the church to oversee the fund and select recipients. Criteria for the scholarship were set by Royer.

For more information contact Deb Miller in care of First Christian Church, P.O. Box 357, Rochester, IN 46975.
