On September 12, Amazing Grace Christian Church will hold its launch worship service.  Amazing Grace is the tenth new Disciples congregation to launch in Indiana since 2001.

The service will be at the Hilton Indianapolis North hotel at 10:00 a.m. and is located at the intersection of Shadeland Ave. and 82nd St. on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

Preston T. Adams is serving as the planter and organizing pastor for Amazing Grace. Prior to launching the new church, Adams served as executive pastor at Light of the World Christian Church in Indianapolis.

The new church and its launch team members were commissioned by T. Garrott Benjamin, senior minister and resident bishop at Light of the World Christian Church on August 29 during the 10:00 a.m. worship service. Adams said of his ministry with Light of the World, “We are eternally grateful to Bishop Benjamin and our Light of the World Christian Church family for over 25 years of nurturing, love, covering, and preparation.”

Following the launch service, Amazing Grace will nest as part of a partnership with Geist Christian Church. The church will meet for worship at 12:00 p.m. each Sunday in the ALTARed worship space at the northeast Indianapolis campus of Geist Christian Church at 8550 Mud Creek Rd. Amazing Grace Christian Church will also have administrative offices at the Geist location.

The partnership between Geist and Amazing Grace shows the power of diversity as a majority Anglo congregation and majority African-American congregation come together for the cause of Christ and the building of Christ’s Kingdom here on earth. Adams went on to say, “This simply proves just how faithful God really is when we follow God’s will.”

Adams cites obedience to the will of God as the reason for planting Amazing Grace Christian Church: “I spent a season of serious prayer (years), fasting and discernment as to how God would lead me to the senior pastorate, something God told me would come to pass when God called me into the ministry. I wanted to be sure it was God and not me.  Too much was at stake for me to not discern the will of God correctly.  So I prayed, fasted, and waited on God.”

Adams and the launch team are praying and working so that Amazing Grace will live up to its motto, “Where God’s Grace is Truly Amazing!” Ephesians 4:7 provides a scriptural vision for the church, “But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ” (KJV).

The Christian Church in Indiana holds Adams, his wife Greta, and their three daughters, Patrice, Alaina, and Quinn Michelle in prayer as they embark on this amazing journey.
