Monticello Christian Receives Award

The Westville Correctional Facility provides an annual award to a group that provides service to the prison. This year the Community Service Award was presented to Daryl Carson and Todd McAchren, members of the Monticello Christian Church.

The men, part of the Kairos Prison Ministry, enter the prison several times each year to conduct a spiritual retreat weekend for the inmates. Building a relationship with the participants, the men then teach and lead the inmates in discovering the message of Christianity and deepening their faith.

Carson and McAchren presented the award to the Monticello Christian Church as a recognition of the church’s commitment to the prison ministry. The congregation supports the men’s ministry by baking hundreds of dozens of cookies to give the inmates, praying throughout the weekend and financially supporting the prison ministry. The children of the church create colorful placemats to be given to the inmates.

A local grade school class taught by Mrs. Jane Rubesch, a church member, also created placemats and art work to be given to the participants.
