Food Drive to Be Part of Assembly Closing Worship

with one comment

Planners for the upcoming General Assembly are asking Indiana congregations to participate in a food drive that will culminate in a food offering at the closing worship and concert on Sunday, August 2.  The drive will benefit the local food pantries that congregations are already supporting.

Congregations that wish to participate should conduct a drive for their local during the month of July.  They should then weigh or estimate the weigh of the food donations given.  A designated representative of the congregation will report the total weight from that church at the volunteer registration table.  The total weight donated by all congregations will be reported during the offering at closing worship.

  1. Beginning this past June we started a new phase of our “A Sharing of Christ” ministry which began in 2008 with the assistance of a Reconciliation Grant from the Region. It is an expansion of our continuing outreach to the migrant workers and their families that are here for the planting and harvesting seasons. We have joined in membership with Terre Haute Catholic Charities Food Bank which allows us to purchase dry goods at .18¢ per pound as well as receiving any bread or produce products at no charge. We also have become an approved distribution site for the U.S.D.A. food pantry program. For the month July we have purchased and/or received, and subsequently distributed to anyone in the community in need 6,493 pounds of food through our Church’s Food Pantry. Praise be to God.
