Church World Service Needs 40,000 Hygiene Kits
Church World Service needs to collect 40,000 hygiene kits to replenish supplies that were depleted following the earthquake in Haiti. New kits will enable C.W.S. to continue provide supplies to Haiti and to fulfill commitments to other partners around the world.
Church World Service, in partnership with ACT Alliance, has assisted over 150,000 people with support and basic needs such as water, blankets, tents, food, medicine and various kits. Within 24 hours of the earthquake, many of these needs were met with kits and supplies already positioned. Now those shelves need to be restocked.
Churches and individuals can help CWS reach the goal of 40,000 kits in four ways.
- Deliver fully assembled Hygiene Kits to the Church World Service collection trailer at the Indiana Interchurch Center, 1100 W. 42nd St. in Indianapolis, between March 24-27 with a separate donation of $2 per kit to help cover the cost of processing the donated kits for shipment. Contact the Indiana-Kentucky Regional CWS Office for alternative delivery and shipping options.
- Collect and deliver multiples of any of the Hygiene Kit contents for assembly by volunteers in Indianapolis between March 1-12.
- Volunteer to assemble Kits at Central Christian Church in Indianapolis. Call 317-635-6397 after March 1 for details.
- Donate funds to offset the processing costs for the Kits assembled in Indianapolis. Up to $80,000 will be needed.
Each hygiene kit should contain:
- 1 hand towel measuring approximately 16” x 28” (no fingertip or bath towels)
- 1 washcloth
- 1 wide-tooth comb
- 1 nail clipper
- 1 bar of soap (bath size in wrapper)
- 1 adult toothbrush (in original factory-sealed packaging)
- 6 standard size Band-aids®
- 1 one-gallon plastic bag with zipper-style closure
